MANSYS Platform


MANSYS is a Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) Optical transport system addressing the metro and access networks applications. It consists of an innovative family of nodes and components providing with up to 9 duplex channels over a single fibres pair, or 4 optical channels over a single fibre. Each optical channel can deliver a bandwidth up to 2.5 Gbps.

SEE Telecom wanted to provide its clients with the possibility to address an optical channel with lower bit rates, typically around 1 Gbit/s and 270 Mbit/s. This implies the design of several specific traffic aggregation boards fitting in the Mansys modular nodes architecture.

SEE Telecom decided to outsource this development to DELTATEC.

  • The Gigabit Aggregation Board (GAB) that allows multiplexing/demultiplexing of two bi-directional communication channels over a single 2.5 Gbps optical channel. This multiprotocol board allows aggregation of a mix two Gigabit Etherent, Fiber channel or generic Gbit links.
  • The video SDI/DVB-ASI Multiplexer (SAM) and SDI/DVB-ASI Demultiplexer (SAD) boards are cards that, when used by pair, allow multiplexing/demultiplexing of up to four SDI/DVB-ASI channels over a single optical channel. Used in conjunction with the GAB board, aggregation of up to eight SDI/DVB-ASI streams over a single CWDM channel.


The MANSYS modular platforms must operate in stringent environments, and come with tight requirements in terms of power dissipation and board size.

Each board must also implement support for the network management system, which further reduces available board space available for the traffic aggregation functionality.


Relying on its FPGA design expertise, DELTATEC was able to develop very integrated solutions able to fit within the allocated size and power budgets, while supporting the various transmission standards involved  on the multiple high speed serial links ( 1 x 2.5 Gbps + 2 x 1.25 Gbps on the GAB boards, and 1x 1.25 Gbps + 4 x 200 Mbps on SAM/SAD boards).

Due to its experience in the broadcast video market, DELTATEC was also able to develop an  innovative SDI streams clock recovery matching the stringent requirements of SMPTE standards.
